Sunday 17th June – walk ***** To Llyn Anafon – cloudy start then sunny but breezy.

A bit of a disturbed with a few cars coming and going and people talking. Woke to a cloudy morning sliding out of the bed as the van is not very level :) After breakfast we pack a snack and head up into National Trust ‘Carneddau’ just as a group of youngsters return after a night under canvas, some looking less than impressed! The route is good as it’s an old farm track used to round up sheep which are everywhere! It’s a climb most of the way through a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains with a stream to the right, we spotted a hare, buzzards, wheatears and stone chats plus a few wild horses but no stone circles or cairns this time just a couple of old stonewall sheep enclosures. With Llyn (Lake) Anafon at the top of the path you can’t see it until you are right on top of it! There is a long stone wall with an overflow fall weir but as they have had little water lately it was only a trickle. There was a long metal walkway leading to a draw off point for hydro-electricity apparently, ignoring the keep off sign I walked to the end to get a pic. There was a small waterfall to the left which we walked to for our snack with several fish jumping. The sun even managed to come out really enhancing the already stunning views and I got some nice pics including a small frog I nearly stood on! It was a day for coat on/coat off as the wind was really strong and swirling about. It was then just a case of walking mainly downhill back which we find harder than going up and it hurts our toes! We made a small detour at the end to get a view of the sea below. The wind looked offshore and too windy for the kit I have with me and had a good 70 km. windsurf yesterday so we decided to stay here. Mag soon knocked up a delicious tuna pasta, I read and dozed while Mag continued her knitting commission as she is on the verge of completing the cushion with a complicated rose pattern for Mary:) We watched the world go by - a young man preparing his mountain bike then very slowly biking up, then two OAP mountain bikers heading up, no electric bikes here! A bit steep for us the think about! Then a courting couple and she was wearing a mini skirt and high heeled boots, they didn’t last long as she spent most of the time stopping the world seeing her knickers and worst of all a middle ages couple in an old camper who couldn’t keep their hands off each other, gross really! I walked up the hill to get signal and reply to my Father’s Day messages from the boys and a pic of Arlo :) Then it was curry time followed by a walk up to the mountain stream mainly to upset loads of sheep. We have the carpark to ourselves so let’s hope for a quiet night!
